Why are the servers so rude? They rushed me and my sister to order food and kept coming over to us to rush us to be done didn’t appreciate that I’ve been coming to Penang for years with my whole family and friends and every time I’ve been back rude

Hi there, Jas! I’m so sorry to hear about your experience. Can you describe who your server was?

Really good food but they do have a big weight at night but that is a small price for the delicious food

They really have the tables packed in there too...you almost can't walk between them if a server is at a table. Love their food!

Lisa, why have you changed the quality of the food? You promised you wouldn't change the food.

Hi there! I haven’t changed anything regarding the menu. We still have the same chefs from 21 years ago til now. What was wrong, Gail?

Do you serve breakfast?

No just Lunch and dinner

Do you serve Halal Meat?

No Halal meat here :)

Do they have WiFi? Meeting a client there and may need access.

I dont think so

The food was excellent. The service was not so much. The staff seemed to realize eventually that they screwed up and tried to make it up, and the food and prices were good enough that I'll give it another go at some point, but not sure it's the first place is recommend.

This review is solely to mention that they've doubled the prices because of covid-19. Understanding that we are all going through a rough time, but doubling the price for an item seems a little much. And this is for a pick up order. No third party involved. Not coming back.

I'm kinda torn here only because I'm a light weight when it comes to spices and everything I wanted on the menu was marked spicy. The nasi lemak was different from anything I've ever eaten. The anchovy side dish was very interesting. Like most reviewers said the roti canai is a must. If I could have just had a bowl of the dipping sauce I would have been satisfied. I'd go back but would definitely benefit by going with someone who is familiar with the cuisine. Table service is sporadic. Don't be surprised if you have multiple servers throughout your visit. Ours left for the night without a mention that she was leaving. I waved goodbye and smiled as she buttoned up her coat. Be patient and kind because it's a different vibe but worth the experience.

We had this restaurant recommended by a local. It was very good. Good service and great tasting food. There were large queues when we left so judging by its popularity this is a top spot!

An absolute personal favorite of mine! I really have no idea where to start but if you get the Rotie appetizer with the chicken curry gravy and the flaky pancakes to dip in the sauce, it will blow your mind! I love it and I get it every single time. The flavors of Malaysian food give you a touch of India a touch of Thailand a touch of Vietnam and who knows where else. Just about everything I taste there is a flavor party in my mouth and every time I introduce someone new to Penang they have nothing but Raves. I love the ambiance the lights are dimmed perfectly enough to create the scene but not too dark as to where I can't see what's on my plate clearly. I'm a fan of the Buddhist vegetable dish. There's a whole bunch of flavor on that plate. Definitely one of my favorite go-to spots when I hit Philly Chinatown.

My wife and I lived in Kuala Lumpur for a while and the satay was exactly like the street vendors in Ampang. The Roti Canai was also a trip back to Malaysia. We're loved the nostalgia this restaurant inspired birthed in us and will make this a regular in our rotation.

A Philly Chinatown superstar, it can get pretty packed during peak hours, but you can always find a seat other times. Everything on the extensive menu is DELICIOUS and the waitstaff are very knowledgeable. Among my top 3 restaurants when I travel to Chinatown with out-of-town guests.

Our family love, love, love Penang. So many delicious dishes and always fast and friendly staff. Can't wait for them to open again, we miss the full menu dearly!!! Make sure to call ahead for pickup, cuz it takes about an hour to prepare. But so worth the wait🤤 one of our favorite restaurants in Philly. The only thing lately curry sauce that comes with a pancake became a little more spicy and not as thick as before. Maybe due to it sitting for a while before we ate it after pickup, still delicious though. Again... can't wait for it to reopen😭

I have been a customer since they opened. Have taken business clients, my family and my staff to Penang over the years. During visit in October we had terrible customer service! I thought it was a bad night. Returned again with friends and worse customer service this time. Embarrassed. Food was good and flavorable, but, hostesses was rude for no reason, lukewarm tea, rushed service which made no sense since only 5 tables occupied, dirty silverware and no water refill during a spicy meal. No one ever checked on our table to ask if we needed anything. Sorry to say we will not return. Have to find more good Malaysian options .

Great Malaysian place in Chinatown, easily one of the must visits in Philly. Food is authentic and delicious, and the space is cozy. The service is also very good. I personally love the squid with Chinese watercress, but most of the other items I’ve ordered are really tasty too.

Delicious food. EXTREMELY busy and crowded on the Friday night I ate there with a friend. I am under the impression that is normal. About a 15 to 20 minute wait for a table, and we had to stand in the narrow vestibule with several other people while waiting. Will go again because the food was good and that is clearly the reason it's so popular!

One of the best restaurants in Chinatown. I've been a frequent visitor for over 10 years now. If you haven't been, I highly recommend the Roti Canai, Chicken Satay and Pad Thai. My three favorite dishes that I can eat over and over again. Made fresh when ordered and made just right. The aroma and flavors of the food are overwhelming (but in a great way)!

The vegetable pot curry and chicken skewers were good. I prefer banana leaf more which is right across the street from Penang. Penang food is good but their portion sizes are small and the wait is forever. On the other hand, banana leaf serves excellent and their portion sizes are great. Overall, a pleasant visit to Penang.

Very good spot to eat at for cheap, authentic, and delicious Malaysian food. Usually some places will give you a glass of water but here they serve you complimentary tea which helps with digesting the food and really makes you feel at home while you eat. It's also open later than most other restaurants in the area so great spot for late night eating to sober up or before your night starts.

This is my favorite restaurant in Philly hands down! I’ve been to many high end restaurants in the city and they just can’t compare to the food here. Visited on NYE 2020. I realize it's busy that night, but service was really., really bad. Ordered an appetizer, steamed chicken dumplings.. Waited 25 minutes after ordering, b4 telling the staff to cancel. The wait staff would do nothing but refer me to the manager. The manager said it was to late to cancel the appetizer. The app arrived 5 minutes letter. Not even warm. the food was not worth the wait.

I went here on a Tuesday! Serious was far. I got sat quickly. My first time sitting next to the kitchen was wonderful. On one hand the view of watching those cooks in the kitchen made me stay off my phone and left conscious of the fact I was eating alone. I already knew from the appetizer section that I wanted the Indian Pancake (Roti and potato dipping sauce) because it is to DIE for! I ordered 3 in one sitting but out of the 3 , I got 2 packed up to go! They were $3.95 on the menu but when you go online to the menu.. It's $2.95🤔.Either way this place left a mark on my heart... I will forever be a patron🎀💓💓💓🎀

New owner, and almost all the servers are new, but they kept the same menu (the guys in the kitchen all look familiar since the staff change). All the menu items seem to be the same recipes, and still have you wanting more!!! I have been going to this place for over 20 years and it's still my favorite in Chinatown!

Found this place after visiting the African American museum and it was great. We weren't too sure if we should try it or not but we're happy that we did. We went on a Thursday afternoon and the place was fairly empty. The server was an older lady and she was so sweet and accommodating. I had the curry chicken and was spicy but not too spicy. The menu had a great selection of items to choose from.

Food was good, but service was very very slow. We had to wait for 5 min before we were seated. None of them paid any attention to us when we were standing. Beside that, restroom has no toilet paper. The handle of the paper towel was broken. The hand dryer was broken... 2 stars for the food only.
